About Us

Our roots are deep, tracing back to 1815, with Joseph Crosfield and Sons in Warrington, England, and 1831, with Joseph Elkinton and Sons in Philadelphia. Both entrepreneurs started with the manufacture of candles and soaps, beginning a two-century story of innovation.

Since then we’ve grown to 31 manufacturing facilities throughout the world, manned by over 1,500 employees and generating over $800m in revenue.

One of our core values is that of safety.

Safety begins with our internal operations where we have an OSHA Total Recordable Incident rate in the top quartile of companies in the American Chemistry Council (ACC). Safety continues with our products, as our silicates make tires safer and improve performance, make concrete stronger while reducing dust by agglomerating powders, and aid in the delivery of safer drinking water by removing heavy metals. Our silicas allow the safe flowing of powder ingredients to enable accurate measuring and help capture moisture to keep contents dry to avoid spoilage.

We’re reliable and innovative, and we continue to develop new growth areas such as biofuels and waste recycling products and process aids that reduce our customers’ environmental footprint and greener production of silicate and silicas.
