Composition of Magnesium Sulfate heptahydrate(Epsom Salt)

Like soluble silicates, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate or Epsom Salt contains three components, each of which provides value in our customers’ applications.

Magnesium is the principal constituent. Most applications for PQ’s magnesium sulfate products are based on its chemistry. Our Epsom Salt crystals contain approximately 10% magnesium by weight.

Sulfur in the form of sulfate is also a key component of Epsom Salt and contributes to many biological applications.

Water is the third ingredient. It is responsible for the very high solubility of Epsom Salt crystals. The crystalline structure contains seven waters of hydration. They account for 50% of the product by weight.

PQ can provide magnesium sulfate solutions at concentrations up to 27% magnesium sulfate.
