PQ has built upon its vast knowledge of silica chemistry and technology to develop and manufacture a wide range of high-purity silica gel catalyst supports. These supports can be used in a diverse range of catalyst applications, including polyolefins, petrochemical processing, and chemical synthesis.
PQ silica supports come in granular and microspheres and macrospheres.
- Granular. Strong particles in sizes ranging from about 30 microns to a few millimeters.
- Microspheres. Unique, continuous silica gel structures with very high pore volume, superior morphology and good attrition resistance compared with spray-dried silicas.
- Macrospheres. Spherical silica beads in sizes from .5 mm to 5 mm.
PQ’s versatile manufacturing technology allows us to supply each of these silicas with the widest range of physical properties. We can control surface area and pore volume independently and over broad ranges. By doing so, we can make silicas with different average pore diameters.
Our manufacturing process also creates a very narrow pore size distribution. Surface properties of the silica—hydroxyl density, for example—can be controlled by thermal or chemical means. This versatility enables us to match the properties of our silica product to your specific application requirements.
