PQ Corporation manufactures NSF Certified Sodium Silicates for use in potable water as well as industrial waters. The soluble Sodium Silicates serve to inhibit corrosion of various metals—iron, lead, copper, and zinc, among others and so reduce their concentrations in the treated water.
Soluble silicates are used in groundwater systems to sequester iron and manganese, and thereby prevent colored water in distribution systems. An economical alternative to removal plants, silicates also do away with the need for sludge disposal.
Activated silica, produced from sodium silicate, can be used as a coagulation aid in the coagulation and flocculation process to create a heavier floc that settles faster. This wastewater treatment process contributes to lower turbidities and longer filter runs.
