PQ will custom develop and manufacture your proprietary silica support using the same knowledge of silica chemistry and the same development expertise that led to PQ’s own, extensive merchant product line. We have the capabilities, the equipment, and the experience to deliver a wide range of shapes, particle sizes, pore volumes, and surface areas. Our custom supports will be tailored to your specific needs.
Surface modification of the silica is also possible. We can chemically treat the surface or alter the silica surface properties by means of calcination.
- Polyolefins. Microspherical supports are recommended for metallocene and Ziegler-Natta catalysts. The large pore volume and pore diameter of these supports, along with their high surface area and unique silica structure, make them ideal for these applications. The characteristics of microspherical supports facilitate complete penetration of bulky catalyst components throughout the entire silica particle. The result is a uniform, high-activity catalyst for use in making polyethylene or polypropylene, in gas phase and in slurry systems. PQ supports are also recommended for preparing chromium catalysts for polyethylene.
- Fluid Bed. PQ’s microspheres are not spray dried. As a result, they exhibit very high attrition resistance in fluid bed applications. The high purity of these materials allows users to prepare catalyst systems that are energized to operate at the limit of process technology.
- Fixed Bed. We offer macrospheres for fixed bed catalyst applications. These silica supports can be used to prepare catalysts for a wide variety of petrochemical and chemical applications.
- Mixed Oxide Supports. PQ can deposit alumina, titania, or other oxides on the silica surface. Doing so allows the catalyst system to use the physical properties of the silica in combination with the chemical properties of the other oxide. As much as a full monolayer of oxide can be applied to the silica support.
