BRITESORB® oil purifiers are specially formulated silica-based adsorbents. Each BRITESORB® particle has interconnected pores providing access to a vast internal surface. The chemical structure of this surface is designed to preferentially attract oil contaminants. Desirable components remain in the oil.
Free fatty acids(FFAs), trace metals and soaps are polar materials and have an affinity for the surface of the BRITESORB® particles. The particles capture contaminants through a three-step mechanism:
- A polar molecule encounters the external surface of the adsorbent particle.
- The molecule is then rapidly adsorbed on the particle surface.
- Finally, the molecule diffuses through the pores, moving into the interior of the oil purifier particle where it remains trapped.
During filtration both the BRITESORB® particles and the contaminants they contain are completely removed from the cooking oil, which then may be recycled.
